W. Tyson Vanlandingham

Co-Founder & Principal

Tyson is a Co-Founder and Principal of Council Family Office, where he plays a pivotal role in shaping the firm’s direction through Practice Management and the continuous enhancement of Value-Add resources provided to our clients. With over 24 years of experience in financial services, Tyson has held significant roles, including Financial Advisor at Dean Witter | Morgan Stanley, Private Client Advisor, Vice President at JP Morgan Chase, and Founder and Private Wealth Advisor at a wealth management firm he built after leaving JP Morgan. He grew the firm from a small team to a larger operation before selling his interest to focus on serving his current clients. Tyson also has a keen interest in Behavioral Finance, which informs his approach to client management and investment strategy.

Tyson is deeply committed to his community. He actively supports local charities, including Grace at the Greenlight, which aids New Orleanians experiencing homelessness. Grace at the Green Light's I’m Going Home Initiative is one of his favorite programs, reuniting homeless individuals with their loved ones by providing documentation, transportation, and a care package to support their journey home. Follow-up efforts show that only 5% of participants return to the streets after three months, demonstrating the program's lasting impact. In March 2020, Tyson helped launch The Funky Uncle, a project that has raised over $850,000 to support local musicians and gig workers. Additionally, he is involved with the Louisiana Music and Heritage Experience, a $160 million project to create a 120,000 sq. ft. interactive museum dedicated entirely to all aspects of Louisiana music. The Louisiana Music and Heritage Experience is expected to attract 712,000 visitors annually, generate $45,000,000 in sales, create 234 full-time equivalent jobs with an average pay of $60,000 plus benefits, and contribute $150 million in indirect economic impact to the state.

Tyson and his family split their time between Old Metairie and Venetian Isles. Outside the office, he enjoys fishing, boating, and kayaking with his son and their two dogs. Tyson earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Business from the University of Mississippi.
